Art at the limit

Magdalena Wallbaum and Klaus Rolf Gerhold complete a unique work on the high plateau of Mount Everest

The artist duo Magdalena Wallbaum and Klaus Rolf Gerhold completed an extraordinary joint work of art on a high plateau on Mount Everest on 22.11.2025. In one of the most extreme and at the same time most fascinating landscapes on earth, they created a work that combines art, nature and physical borderline experiences in a unique way.

The monumental image shows Mount Everest in its majestic presence and has a deliberately chosen format of 884.8 mm in height – a direct reference to the exact height of the highest mountain on earth at 8,848 meters above sea level. This conceptual dimensioning makes the work a symbolic homage to Everest and lends it a special depth of content.

Wallbaum and Gerhold worked side by side on this painting under the most demanding climatic conditions, in thin mountain air and under intense physical strain. The immediate proximity to the original motif, the extreme surroundings and the meditative tranquillity of the high altitude lend the work an extraordinary authenticity, emotional power and artistic truthfulness.

Mount Everest, itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is not only represented by this work, but also interpreted as a spiritual place, a natural wonder and a symbol of human borderline experience. The project stands for the fusion of artistic vision, physical challenge and deep connection with one of the most important natural monuments in the world.

Limited edition on Himalayan stone

In addition to the original work, a strictly limited edition of 25 copies will be produced, making this extraordinary project accessible to international collectors. These limited editions will be printed in high quality on genuine Himalayan stone – a material that authentically reflects the physical and spiritual origins of the work.

Each edition has the identical format of the original work, measuring 884.8 mm in height, thus once again picking up on the symbolism of the Everest altitude. In addition, each copy is personally hand-painted by the artist duo, making each work unique despite being limited.

A numbered and signed certificate of authenticity confirms the limited edition as well as the craftsmanship and artistic refinement by both artists. These editions combine natural material, artistic precision and emotional expressiveness to create exclusive collector’s items of international relevance – as a link between extreme nature, contemporary art and lasting value.

The works will soon be available on our website.
